I used to be a more emotional shopper, now before buying a single item (unless i 'm buying a whole outfit) I think about whether I have something to matching it. If I have can create >2 outfits with this item using my current wardrobe contents (including shoes), and I think the price is good. I will buy it, and keep the receipt to make sure I can return it. If the item is final sale, it has to be of an exceptional price and be able make lots of outfit with my wardrobe.
